Description:

In January 2011, Estonia introduced the EURO. The "Let's Do It" civic movement, proposed to collect Estonian kroon coins for the recently established Estonian Food Bank. All over Estonia, in shops, offices, churches, banks, schools, fuel stations, etc... one could find thousands of collection bottles in which people could drop their coins. With the help of hundreds of volunteers and schoolchildren, "Let’s Do It" collected 78,359 € between October 2010 and April 2011, with 56,419 € donated to the Food Bank. The media offered free space for advertisement on TV, radio, newspapers and internet. Banks and G4S (Group 4 Securicor) helped for free with collection and counting.

Costs:

0 €

Results:

Money for 4 vans, 20 refrigerators, shelves, scales, crates, trolleys, etc...

Tips or tricks:

Food Banks in countries who will introduce the EURO in the future could do the same. This only works if there is enough media attention.
